A tanker left the roadway in North Carolina, coming to rest in a ditch along side highway 150. The five compartment MC 306/DOT 406 was carrying multiple products including Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Toluene, Ethanol, and Ethyl Acetate. Responders used a combination of offensive and defensive tactics to mitigate the incident.
When a tanker over turns, dome clamps are an excellent leak control option. Lets take a few minutes to review ‘em…
I can’t tell for sure, but if you look closely at the photo, it appears like dome clamps may have been applied the dome lids on top of the tanker. Even if they weren’t, I still wanna talk dome clamps for a few.
There are two main style of dome clamps available to hazmat teams (Excluding the home made versions). If your team doesn’t have any check out the Lid Tight by NorthWest Hazmat and the Lid Loc by STTS.
In addition to selling tank truck equipment Safe Transportation Training Specialists (STTS) does a great course on Tank Truck Emergency Response. STTS has made some great YouTube vidoes covering the skills taught in the their class, including dome clamps application. So crab so coffee and tell your hazmat crew to gather around while STTS covers dome clamp part 1 and part 2.
And Dome Lids Part 2:
