DC Fire & EMS responded to a technical rescue, initially reported as a trench.   Turns out two brothers fell 3 stories off scafolding, landing in a ditch below.  Debri from the scaffolding reportedly landed on top of them.   Their injuries are reported as serious, but not life threatening.  Click here to read the brief story.

Shortly after the construction accident, DC Fire & EMS, including Hazmat and the MCI Bus, were sent to the Lab School of Washington.  A small pepper spray canister was discharged in the school.  Two students were transported by EMS, along with 27 students evaluated on the MCI bus.

As you’ve probably heard, FDNY is scheduled to take delivery of the worlds largest fireboat in early March.

This week the shipbuilder began 3 weeks of testing prior to delivery.  Read the story and see the video of the pump test here.

In addition to marine firefighting capabilities, the vessel has CBRN protection for the crew, a decontamination room, a dive platform,   3600 gallons of foam concentrate, and can launch/recovery a small rescue boat.

Check out the homepage for FDNY Marine 1, and a site dedicated to the boats themselves: NYCFireBoat.com.  It has some shots of the boats being built from the ground up.

Anyone interested in being a test pilot can find our more information and download an application here.

If you haven’t built a raker in awhile, don’t try to wing it from memory.   Take a quick peek at your US&R Field Guide, before you start swinging a hammer.

This photo, originally posted awhile back at VentEnterSearch.com, shows how a raker looks when you don’t get it “exactly” right.

If you’ve misplaced your trusty FOG manual, you can pick one here, for $10.95.
